Hows it going guys! Well my question is. I was given a riding mower. I dont know much about it and i cant seem to find anything really about it online other then a few pics. I mean like 3 or 4 and not one video of it at all. All i know is its called Powr Kraft. When i got it all it needed. My 1994 MTD powr kraft. Got it for free, drove it a bit then it sat. Got back around to it and fixed her up. Recorded February 20, 2018.
I am trying to fix my MTD/Powercraft riding mower. It has an 18 HP I/C B+S motor, twin cylinder. 42a707 series. It has a hydrostatic transmission. The starter will not turn the motor to start it. I have put on a brand new starter and it still will not turn the motor. Even when I jump past all of the switches and solenoids and jumper straight from the pos (+) battery terminal to the starter, the starter still will not turn the engine.
The battery is fully charged and tested so I have ruled that out. My question is could it be that the transmission belts/blade belts are too tight? Should the transmission belts be disengaged when trying to start somehow? Right now the belts are very tight all the time and the engine is VERY hard to turn, even by hand. I know it is not a compression problem, I have taken the spark plugs out and the problem persists.
It is not an OHV engine so I am not inclined to believe that it is a valve problem. Should the clutch be disengaging the transmission belt? What exactly does the clutch do on these machines? This may be a very vague question, but I have been fooling with this tractor for a week now and I am at my wits end. If more info is needed, or questions arise please let me know. Help me if you can! Thanks.

My Powercraft riding lawnmower will not start. It turns over but does not fire. I need a copy of the electrical diagram. Anyone know where I might find one?

I don't know if this will help or not. I have a John Deere that turns over a few times then nothing. I have gone to two JD dealers and they have told me the same thing. The valves need adjusting. It appears that the inexpensive JD mowers use a Briggs and Stratton engine that have valve problems that prevent the mower from starting. The JD dealers told me this is the model that they sell to thebig box stores. The JD with the good engines cost twice as much. The dealer told me under the hood is the air intake screen that sits on top of the engine. This is revolving when the engine is running. He said to turn it in reverse and then try starting the engine. You may have to several times. There can be so must that can go wrong with these engines. Maybe this will help you.

You should try a search for manuals online, plus you will need to disclose the model no.
